Who are Louis and Mary Leakey and what did they discover?

Louis Leakey (1903–1972) and Mary (1913–1996) Leakey were archeologists (scientists who study the remains of ancient human cultures) who made significant findings in East Africa. Louis Leaky was the son of British missionaries. He was raised in Kenya, Africa, where he grew up speaking Kikuyu, the native language of his province. As a child he collected arrowheads and other prehistoric stone tools, developing an early fascination which would eventually turn into a lifelong career. He began his formal archeological research in 1924 after studying at Cambridge University in England. He married fellow archeologist and artist Mary Douglas Nicol in 1936 and together they journeyed to Kenya to conduct the work that would make them famous in the world of archeology. In 1948 they discovered more than thirty fragments of the skull of an apelike creature....
