The Ten Commandments are divine laws given by God to the Israelites (Jews) through the Hebrew prophet Moses (fifteenth century–thirteenth century B.C.). Listed in the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy in the Old Testament of the Bible, the Ten Commandments form the basis of Judaism (the Jewish religion), Christianity (a religion founded by Jesus of Nazareth, who was called the Christ), and Islam (a religion founded by the prophet Muhammad).
