What is Golgotha?

From Hebrew, the name Golgotha refers to the hillside outside of Jerusalem (a city in Palestine) where Jesus Christ (c. 6 B.C.–A.D. 30) was crucified (killed by being nailed to a cross and left to die of exposure). Although the exact location of Golgotha, also called Calvary, is unknown, many people believe that the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in present-day Jerusalem stands on the site of the crucifixion.
