What are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (a momentous event in which God destroys the powers of evil and raises the righteous to life) are allegorical (symbolic) figures mentioned in chapter six of the book of Revelation in the New Testament of the Bible. According to Revelation, God holds in his right hand a scroll (a piece of material such as leather on which words are inscribed) that is held together by seven seals. When the first seal is broken, the four horsemen appear, each on a different-colored horse. Various interpretations have been given to these figures. One popular interpretation holds that the rider on the white horse represents conquest (the return of Jesus of Nazareth, also called the Christ, the Son of God); the rider on the red horse, war; the rider on the black horse, famine; and the rider on the pale horse, death.
