At 9:02 A.M. on April 19, 1995, a truck bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in the most devastating act of terrorism in American history. The explosion sheered off the front of the 9-story building and left and 8-foot (2.4-meter) by 30-foot (9-meter) crater. Among the 169 people killed by the blast were 19 children. Another 500 people were injured. Survivors and others in the vicinity immediately began rescue efforts, but the emotional scars may never heal.

Police officers and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agents worked together to find the culprits. They arrested former U.S. Army friends Timothy McVeigh (1968– ) and Terry L. Nichols (1955– ).
