What does the term "Jungian" mean?

The term "Jungian" refers to the ideas of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961), who rejected the psychological theories of Austrian physician Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) and developed his own concepts of human behavior. Although Jung agreed with Freud that the unconscious (part of the mind of which a person is unaware) exists, he rejected Freud's view that mental illnesses stem from part of the mind being in conflict with another part. Jung, however, declared that many factors, such as the personalities of a person's parents, influence human behavior. In 1912, Jung published an important work, Psychology of the Unconscious, in which he defined the term "collective unconscious."
