Why is Easter celebrated when it is?
Easter is a Christian celebration marking the time when Jesus of Nazareth (the founder of Christianity; also called the Christ) rose from the dead after being crucified (nailed to a cross as a form of capital punishment). The date of Easter varies from year to year, taking place on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full Moon after the vernal equinox (also called the first day of spring, March 21).
