Which presidents does Presidents' Day commemorate?
Presidents' Day takes place on the third Monday in February and commemorates the birthday of George Washington, the first president of the United States, who was born on February 22, 1732. People have been celebrating Washington's birthday since the late 1700s. Although the holiday officially honors Washington, in some states it also commemorates the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, who was born on February 12, 1809.
