Was the U.S. Constitution originally written in German?

The popular notion that the U.S. Constitution was originally written in German is false. According to this story, delegates to the Second Continental Congress wanted to show their defiance of Great Britain by choosing a language other than English for the document that stated the laws of their new nation. Supposedly they chose German because printing houses in the colonies were operated by Germans. Historians, however, have determined that the Constitution was published only in English.
