Who were the first warriors to fight on horseback?

The Visigoths, a Germanic tribe who migrated in waves across Europe, were the first warriors to fight on horseback. In 378, in a battle against the Romans at Adrianople (in present-day Turkey), they used horses to carry large groups of warriors. This was a major innovation in the history of warfare.
