Henry David Thoreau published two books during his lifetime: A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers (1849) and Walden: Or, Life in the Woods (1854). Three additional books edited by his sister Sophia and his friend William Ellery Channing were published soon after his death: a collection of his travel essays titled Excursions (1863), The Maine Woods (1864), and Cape Cod (1864).
