Health Care | Most Patients Are Satisfied with Managed Care

In the following viewpoint, Karlyn Bowman uses data from respected national polls to argue that most managed care patients are satisfied with their health care. In fact, she maintains, these polls indicate there is little difference in satisfaction between those in managed-care arrangements and those in traditional fee-for-service plans. She contends that Americans’ dislike for big bureaucracies and biased media coverage are responsible for the negative image of HMOs.
