Lord Voldemort, when he killed Harry's parents, tried to kill Harry, but he only succeeded in wounding Harry and in leaving that jagged, lightening bolt shaped scar on Harry's forehead.

To best answer this question, you will need to go all the way back to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," book one in the series. There, we are told by Rowling that Harry received his forehead scar when Voldemort (he who shall not be named)attempted to kill Harry as a baby, but failed because Harry was protected by a cosmic force.

When Voldemort is near, Harry's scar agitates him by aching or hurting. Through this, Harry always knows when his nemesis is close by. In book one, during the final confrontation scene between Voldemort and Harry, the scar begins to bother him when the villain is within close proximity.

actually when lord voldemort went to kill harry, he used killing curse on both his parents.

but lily harry's mother spread her arms around him and this gave harry protection.

when voldemort used avada kevadra on harry the protection charm did not allow him to kill harry.

since voldemort already had seven horcruxes made and his soul did not have enough strength to face this protection, a part of his soul was placed in harry.

thats why he got a scar.

and harry can see through voldemorts mind when he gets excited.

When Voldemort went to Godrics Hollow to kill Harry he killed both his parents first because they were trying to protect Harry. He killed his father first and then went upstairs to kill Harry and his mother.

But his mother spread her arms around him, protecting him and this protected Harry. When Voldemort used the killing curse on Harry the protection that his mother gave him did not allow him to kill Harry.

But Voldemort already had made six horcruxes and his soul did not have enough strength to face the protection Harry's mother put on him and a part of his soul was transferred to Harry. This was Voldemort's seventh horcrux.

That is why Harry got his scar. That is also why he is a parselmouth and he can see into Voldemort's mind when he is excited because the night Voldemort gave Harry that scar he transferred some of his powers to Harry. Does that explain it?.

The scar is 1/7 of Lord Voldemorts soul. Which is the reason that Voldemort can not die.
