Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire | Chapter 10 Summary

Chapter Ten

Mayhem at the Ministry

After only sleeping a few hours, the group packs up their tents with the use of magic and hurries off to the portkeys to journey home. Mrs. Weasley is incredibly relieved to see all of them. She darts at them waving a very biased article written by Rita Skeeter of The Daily Prophet. The terror at the Quidditch World Cup is turning out to be a large bit of trouble for the Ministry of Magic. Mr. Weasley leaves immediately for the Ministry and Harry anxiously asks if Hedwig had brought any sign of a letter from Sirius. Harry finally tells Ron and Hermione about his scar hurting, only to receive the exact reactions he had expected.

In the upcoming days, Mr. Weasley lets everyone know that the Ministry is in complete mayhem because of the Dark Mark appearing at the Quidditch World Cup. Of course, it did not help that Rita Skeeter spread the rumor that bodies may have been discovered as a result.  Mr. Weasly adds that Crouch is lucky that Skeeter did not find out about Winky being discovered at the scene. Hermione uses this moment to rail on again about house elf rights while Harry begins to worry about not receiving a letter from Sirius yet.

It turns out that Mrs. Weasley has done all of the kids’ school shopping while they were away at the Quidditch World Cup. Ron is absolutely disgusted at the horrible dress robes that his mom has purchased. They are incredibly old and ragged. Because Harry’s robes did not need to be purchased second-hand, his robes are totally normal looking. Ron crams the robes into his bag in anger.
