School Spirit

Go breadfruit tree! I mean, go negative space! No, no! Frogs! Black Sheep! Commies! Hampshire students don't rally underneath one logo or mascot, though they can in some cases get quite enthusiastic (for dramatics or just for fun) about their school spirit. The official mascot is the frog, but the basketball players chant “Go Black Sheep!” (a good–natured play on the College's reputation amongst the Five Colleges), and the ultimate Frisbee team, the Red Scare, scrimmages against other schools in their bright red T–shirts with a hammer and sickle. Whatever image, logo, or mascot students decide to embrace, Hampshire school spirit is often coupled with a bit of wry humor about the school's many quirks.
