Hamlet deals a great deal with plotting and scheming. Who in Hamlet sets plans in motion? To what ends? Posted by tgirl5 on May 10, 2009. |

Who sets Hamlet's plans in motion, or what? I suppose Hamlet is stemmed to action after he kills Polonius. Then it would be Gertrude who stems his action? After killing Polonius, he's 'sent' to England and everything continues going downhill as he escapes and sends Ros and Guil to die. However, since it is the killing of Polonius that seems to set the rest of the story in motion, and since Polonius is visiting in part because of Claudius' wish to keep an eye on Hamlet, it could be Claudius that sets everything in motion. Tp what ends? He wants to prevent Hamlet from telling Gertrude anything, most likely. He knows that Hamlet knows at this point, but Gertrude does not realise... It would depend on your reading of the story, as well though. I've only suggested this answer. Posted by amberangel on May 11, 2009. |
