School Spirit

The nickname of the Fighting Quakers is an oxymoron in itself, due to the fact that Quakers have traditionally been a non-violent people. One amusing cheer includes: “Fight! Fight Inner-light! Kill! Quakers, Kill!” School spirit is high, but not necessarily visible in the ways one might expect.

Students love being on campus during Serendipity. Guilford students don’t express their school spirit in terms of attending sporting events, but rather as critical and concerned members of the school’s community. Nearly all students are supportive of clubs and organizations and community involvement. Most Guilford graduates are proud of their degree when they feel that they’ve actually worked for it. Everyone loves the campus and spends time outside enjoying the surroundings. Guilford big oak tree logo is normally seen on cars, clothing, etc., but not always in support of sports teams, but the college instead.
