What do you think eventually happens to everyone in West and East Egg? Do they lose their money in the Great Depression?

    That is a very good question.  Everyone who invested his money into the banks and into stocks/bonds lost his money.  The farmers across America were hit the worst, but these East and West Eggers from the novel would have also lost everything. They may have been able to keep some of their luxuries (compared to the rest of the nation) but as history explains, the rich became poor as well.  There was no protection for investments or protection from the banks losing our money during this period.  So these "Eggers" would all be in the same money struggles that the rest of the country was facing. Some stocks dropped down $200 or more per share. This would deplete many of their funds that they were so used to spending carelessly.
