The story is about the corruption of the American Dream assuming that the American Dream is to become wealthy and then happiness would naturally follow. Some people might argue that wealth and happiness go hand in hand; others might say that they are two separate dreams. Another topic that might cause disagreement would be whether or not Tom was right in directing Wilson to Gatsby. We don't know how much Tom knows, i.e., did he know that Wilson was planning to shoot Gatsby and did he know that Daisy was driving the car when Myrtle was hit and killed. If the answer to either or both of those questions is "yes", then would that make Tom an accessory to the murder of Jay Gatsby? Some other topics that might cause disagreement are: should Daisy have left Tom for Gatsby? Was there justification for the way in which Gatsby made his fortune? Could Gatsby and Daisy ever truly been happy together? I'm sure there are many other topics as well.
