    1. Gatsby's love for Daisy: At the end of Ch.5, Gatsby and Daisy are left alone and Nick remarks how intimate they have both become: "His hand took hold of hers and as she said something low in his ear he (Gatsby) turned toward her with a rush of emotion." They are meeting after five years and Gatsby's passion for her has not diminished one bit.

Similarly, in Ch.8, Gatsby confesses to Nick "I can't describe to you how surprised I was to find out I loved her old sport" although he knew that Daisy came from a very rich family.

    2. Gatsby's bootlegging: In Ch.7, Tom reveals the truth about Gatsby's past: "He and this Wolfshiem bought up a lot of sidestreet drug stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter. That's one of his little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him and I wasn't far wrong."
