Posted by ms-mcgregor on Tuesday December 9, 2008 at 1:26 PMThe two woman are polar opposites. Biddy is kind, loving and efficient. When she come to take care of Mrs. Gargery, Pip's sister, she treats her charge with respect and care. She also earns the respect of Joe. Pip, unfortunately, does not recognize Biddy's good qualities because he thinks she is to "low class" for him. By the time he realizes his mistake, Biddy has already decided to marry Joe. Mrs. Pocket, ironically, dislikes he husband because she feels she married below her social class. She also also fails at being a good mother and housekeeper. In fact, her household is described as "tumbling". Her husband has to teach in order to keep his family from starving. Thus, Biddy, who comes from the "lower classes" turns out to be a much better candidate for a wife than Mrs. Pocket, who spends her time regretting the low status of her husband and ignoring her children.
