Traditions
Club rush Day
During the first week of class, student clubs set up information tables along Van Meter Highway to recruit new members. No one passes through without signing up for at least one club.
- Parent Weekend
Held at the beginning of October, students invite their families to check out Goucher life. Highlights include a lunch with Goucher’s president, a student talent show, athletic events, and free transportation to the Inner Harbor.
- Goucherdales
An annual House Council fundraiser in which male Goucher students compete in stripping performances. Judges select the winner (s) at the end of the show and crown him “King Ding-a-Ling.”
- Blind Date Ball
An SGA-sponsored semi-formal dance held on campus. Students can (not required) fill out a questionnaire and be matched with a compatible date. Although a blind date is not required to attend, it makes the evening a lot more interesting.
- Midnight Madness
The pep rally for Goucher’s basketball teams, held at midnight on the first day of the basketball season. Events include the introduction of the teams and mascot, games, prizes, music, a 3-point shootout contest, and a slam-dunk contest. The most school spirit you’ll ever see at Goucher.
- Winter Meltdown
An afternoon of stress relief held before finals week of the fall semester. Activities include free professional massages, board games, miniature golf, and food. The biggest attraction is the car smash: students trash a car with sledgehammers and baseball bats for the ultimate stress relief.
- Spring Gala
A formal dance held in the spring (like the high school prom, but better). Tickets often sell out, showing how popular this dance is, considering the apathy among students toward most activities.
- GIG (Get Into Goucher Day)
The date of GIG is kept a secret as long as possible, but it always falls on a Friday afternoon in the spring. At noon, the SRC bell rings, officially canceling classes for the rest of the day. Everyone runs down to the SRC to join the carnival, complete with rides, games, music, food, and entertainment. Previous GIGs included carnival rides, a mechanical bull, Jell-O wrestling, human foosball, psychic readings, and airbrushed tattoos. The evening ends with a huge concert, featuring popular acts like the Sugar Hill Gang and They Might Be Giants.
- Senior Week
The celebratory week between the end of finals and graduation. The entire week is one big party. The Alumni House and senior class representatives organize events for seniors, including a pub crawl in Fell’s Point, a trip to an amusement park, tickets to an Orioles game, a cookout, and any other events seniors request.
