Goucher Slang

Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Goucher. The more of these words you know, the better off you’ll be.
Blackboard – An Internet classroom where students can retrieve assignments, participate in class message boards, and contact professors and classmates
Campusweb – A Web-based portal providing students with access to transcripts, class schedules, and a student, faculty, and staff directory.
Cdigix – Goucher’s online music service provider
CDO – Career Development Office. Go here to find an internship, off-campus jobs, or to receive help with your resume and career decisions.
CTlT – Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. If you call it the CLTCTL, people will still know what you mean
Dorsey – Dorsey Center
Flex – Meal plan dollars. This money is on your OneCard and can be used at Pearlstone Café and The Van to purchase items.
FMS – Facility Management Services. They perform jobs from custodial services to lawn and building maintenance.
Gooch – Short for Goucher
Gopher Bucks – Money you put on your OneCard
Gopher hole – On-campus coffeehouse
Goucher Digest – A daily e-mail with important information, event announcements, and employment opportunities
Mortimer – The name of Goucher’s gopher mascot
OneCard – Your student ID
Pearlstone – Pearlstone Student Center
SAS – Student Administrative Services. Go here to register for classes or for help with your financial-aid package.
SRC – Student Recreation Center
Stimmy – Stimson Dining Hall
The Loop – Loop Road, the main road that circles around campus
The New Gym – The newer gymnasium next to the entrance of the SRC
The Old Gym – The high school-ish gymnasium located near the dance studios
The Q – The Quindecim, Goucher’s student-run newspaper
The Quad – The residential quad, the grassy area with the beach volleyball court
The Stimson Smell – The scent that lingers on your clothes after eating in Stimson Dining Hall. No one is quite sure just where it comes from, but students speculate that the blend of grease, curry, and fried chicken aromas may be the culprit.
The Strategic Plan – Goucher’s plan to increase diversity, revamp curriculum, promote global awareness, and create more intellectual and social interaction on campus.
Tommy Phiz – Tom Phizacklea, Vice President of Finance. This guy decides whether or not to close school when it snows.
SI – Supplemental Instruction. These weekly study sessions led by an upperclassman with experience and training in the coursework are a great place to get help on difficult classwork.
Van Meter highway – The sidewalk that stretches from Stimson to Van Meter (no, cars can’t drive on it)
