Now that he has been identified, the Misfit believes he has no choice but to eliminate the family that may provide information about his whereabouts as he continues his journey in his escape from prison.
His way of dealing with this kind of problem offers no hope for the grandmother and her family. Because she has recognized the Misfit and told him so, they must all die so that the Misfit and his cronies can keep running from the authorities. Thus the murders begin.
