Students Speak Out On Overall Experience

“Recently, I was talking to a man whose entire family went to GU. Some of them moved to Seattle, but they all ended up back in Spokane. There is something here that grows on you. You hear stories all the time about siblings following each other here, and I came here because some friends told me to. Of course, there are problems: I am a business major and some of my courses are irrelevant, poorly taught, a waste of my time, filled with busy work, or require ridiculously priced and useless texts. Spokane is lacking in higher culture, and there's almost no demand for it. Anyone who really wants that stuff goes to Seattle. So, don't expect great bands, festivals, or artsy events in general. Expect monster truck rallies and rodeos. The community here can be pretty tight, though. Especially with events like Bloomsday and Hoopfest.”

“Gonzaga was the only in-state school I applied to. After visiting, I realized that it was the only school I needed to apply to. It fit me like a glove, and was full of my kind of people. Gonzaga is the perfect size—sometimes I felt like I knew the whole school. And yet, at the end of my senior year, I was still meeting classmates. Students are involved and care about other things besides academics. Sure, there are times I wish I would've gone somewhere more academically challenging, more renowned, more intellectually-stimulating, but then I realize that there is no other place I could have called my own. I wouldn't trade my experience for the world. Instead, I feel like I got the world. I wouldn't be where I am otherwise.”
