How does religion enhance the story, characters, settings, or meaning in "Go Tell It On the Mountain"?

I really want to get a better understanding of it and it's purpose through out the story.

Answers:

  1. You may want to look into the biblical allusions throughout the novel. For example, the names of many of the characters have Biblical equivalents, you can look into those Biblical characters and try and identify either parallels or connections. Also there is a lot of biblical imagery throughout the novel, such as references to snakes, biblical eventsand such. (When I say Biblical I am speaking of Judeo-Christian Biblical references although mostly Christian, both Old and New Testament)
