Global Warming | Nuclear Power Is a Solution to Global Warming
Mary L. Walker describes how a revival of the nuclear power industry could provide the United States with an important non–fossil fuel energy source, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as agreed upon by the Clinton Administration in the Kyoto Protocol. In Walker’s opinion, a new generation of nuclear power plants can be built utilizing safer technology and presenting minimal risk to public safety and the environment. Walker was assistant secretary for environment, safety, and health at the U.S. Department of Energy from 1985 to 1988.
