Once the twelves are given their assignments in The Giver, Fiona is assigned to the House of the Old.  We already know that the rules and awkwardness about nudity are not applied to the old just as they are not to new children.  However, the more shocking item that we learn once Fiona becomes a caretaker for the old is that the elderly are subject to the discipline wand just as children are.  The discipline wand is an instrument of corporal punishment that is described as a thin stick to strike the offender on the hands or legs.
