    You haven't specified a certain section, but the major characters of the book "The Giver" are as follows:

    Jonas -- the main character, a 12 year old boy who lives in the community. He is intelligent, perceptive, and conforms well to his society's rules and expectations. When he turns 12 he is given the assignment of Receiver of Memories, which changes his perceptions of the society he lives in.

    The Giver -- the Giver is an elder who holds memories of pain, love, joy, sunlight, colors, emotions, war, etc. that the community know longer knows. The Giver transfers these memories to Jonas.

    Gabe -- a newchild who is underweight and in danger of being "released." Jonas' father nurtures the child, and Jonas forms an attachment to the child, who he later escapes the community with

    Fiona -- a 12 year old girl who is friends with Jonas. Jonas develops a crush on her

    Asher -- a 12 year old boy who always makes slight infractions in the community, Jonas' best friend

    Jonas' family -- Father, Mother, and Lily -- Jonas' "family unit"
