thats because that what they could gather the expensive one and thats all they have to bring to a king

In the Old Testament it had been foretold that gold and incense would be brought as offerings to the Savior from Sheba: "...all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the Lord" (Isaiah 60:6).
The gifts that the Magi chose to bring to the child Jesus have also served to signify, to untold generations, the purpose that Jesus came into the world.
