Georgetown has a sort of "online dating service" called CHARMS for matching roommates. Students fill out a questionnaire about music preferences, tidiness, bedtimes/waketimes, etc, and can search for people based on their responses to those questions. When you've found people who look like good matches, you can message them to get to know them more. If you don't find a match during the allotted time, the housing people will match you with someone who matches your questionnaire to the best of their ability. I didn't find a match through CHARMS and my roommate and I tolerated each other without any incidents. My next year I was randomly matched with someone, and though we had even less in common than my prior match, we actually roomed better together because we were both pretty easy going. I can only think of 1 incident where roommates REALLY didn't get along and had stopped speaking to each other, and they were matched w/out CHARMS. Unfortunately, housing is limited, so even though it was a total disaster, they couldn't be switched.
