What are classes like? Are professors accessible? Are classes challenging? Posted by enotes on Aug 28, 2008. |

Classes are almost always great. Everyone I know uses Rate My Professor when choosing classes and (even though there aren't very many bad ones) bad professors are easily identified and avoided. 15-18 credits is standard. If you're ambitious enough, you can have no Friday classes. MSB students never do. There are several famous ex-government officials on the faculty here, but more importantly, there are many truly gifted lecturers.
Discussion groups, on the other hand, are more hit and miss. And you don't know who your TA will be before you sign up - or whether you will have a TA at all. Some are knowledgeable and know how to conduct a discussion. Others are more interested in hearing themselves talk and it gets painful fast.
From personal experience, my favorite classes have been in languages/ling, philosophy/theology, and government. You'll be able to find whatever you're looking for, though Georgetown doesn't have engineering or architecture. Classes are often hard to get into - but that's the way the market works, and they're mostly small, which is nice. The largest lecture hall is quite small by many schools' standards, and by junior year, most of your classes are 15-person seminars. Taking classes at Georgetown lives up to the Georgetown name.
