Kira's community is isolated by surrounding fields and wooded areas that are meant to keep the villagers in, just as much as outsiders out. They use fear of the forest to discourage attempts to leave.

The community also weeds out the weak and infirm to promote a strong work environment that is not burdened with caring for the sick or injured. In taking away those with special needs, the community is without much need for compassion and emotion, that leads to a lack of true connection between its own members.
