    Liberty comes to live with the family because she is given to the family by a very well trusted friend of the family, Mister Victor. It is a gift and all of the rest of the family wants to have the dog. Liberty runs away from the narrator and the narrator hopes that the dog will still be there when she comes to visit her country. You see, her mother wouldn't allow her to keep the dog when they went to the U.S, so the narrator became afraid that the strange men would come back and find Liberty and possibly kill her. She didn't want that to happen, so she made her run away by kicking her, which is what her mother used to do.
