Furman Slang

Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Furman. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.

ABC

Atlanta Bread Company, a popular soup and sandwich place and a good place to study.

Chicken Finger Tuesday

The DH serves Chicken fingers every Tuesday. Students anticipate Chicken Finger Tuesday from Wednesday to Monday.

CLPs

Cultural Life Program. Every student has to get 36 CLP credits to graduate.

The DH

The Dining Hall.

E-field

The field in front of Blackwell and next to the UC. There are also sand volleyball and basketball courts there.

First Class

Furman's
e-mail system.

Frad

Freshman Advisor; upperclassmen who live on freshman halls without the responsibility of enforcing housing rules. There are two on every freshman hall.

FUPO

Furman
University Police.

FUSAB

Furman University Student Activities Board; the student group responsible for planning most campus activities.

GER

General Education Requirement, classes that every student must take to graduate.

HES

Refers to the Health and Exercise Science department and HES-10, a general education requirement for all students.

The Mall

The Furman Mall, or the grassy area leading up to the PAC.

O-Week

Freshman Orientation Week, the week before classes start every September.

The PAC

The Physical Activities Center. This building houses the workout facilities, gym, climbing well, pool, and the health and exercise sciences department.

P-Den

The Pala Den Food Court in the University Center.

RAR

Resident Assistant's roommate.

Recruitment

Synonym for rush (see the Words to Know section).

The UC

The University Center. This is the center of student activity on campus.

Wa Ho

Waffle House, a great post-party hang out with 24-hour dining.
