   At the beginning of Chapter 6 Victor is beginning to come out of his illness and the exhuastion brought on by the creation of his "monster."  He is feeling better and Clerval gives him a letter from Elizabeth.  On page 45 of my edition the narrator says,

   "Summer passed away in these occupations, and my return to Geneva was fixed for the latter end of autum, but being delayed by several accidents, winter and snow arrived, the roads were deemed impassable, and my journey was retarded until the ensuing spring."

   I must note that the link in enotes indicates that this happens in chapter 5, but the first time Victor mentions or plans to go home after leaving is in chapter 6 after his recovery.
