What is a frame story and how is this novel an example of one?

    A frame story is a story within a story.  Frankenstein is a wonderful example since we are "listening" to the story with Robert Walton as Victor Frankenstein tells it.  Victor is attempting to teach Robert Walton not to make the same mistakes he did by getting carried away by his ambition and desire for knowledge.  There are also several chapters in the middle of the book where the point of view switches to the Creature who is telling his story to Victor, but don't forget that this is all Victor's flashback and Robert Walton and we are still the main audience.
