How has studying "Frankenstein" given you a better understanding of 18th century prose?

    Reading Frankenstein can give the reader a better understanding of what was considered appropriate diction and writing style for 18th Century readers.  The complexities of the sentences along with vocabulary give the reader a better understanding of society's expectations for an educated reader.  Additionally, by analysing various motifs and symbols used by Shelley in the novel give the reader insight into the nature of the conflict man versus God/man as God/nature vs. science that was prevalent in the 18th Century.  Many poems of the time reflect similarly ideas and conflicts which are present in Frankenstein.  Reading the novel will also give you an introduction into Gothic Literature that is for example continued in terms of theme into the 19th Century by authors such as Edgar Allen Poe and into the 20th Century.
