    Mr. Freedman is an easy one, he might represent the promise/hope/difficulty of being a "Freed Man"

    Gideon is a biblical name, in the bible's old testament, Gideon was a hero who listened to God and led a religious war in support of God and against other tribes.

    Pascal may refer to Pascal Blaise, who was a child math prodigy who was also a religious philosopher. He was a very smart and wise man.
