Yes, both health services and personal counseling are available to students at Florida State University. Every student is required by the university to have health insurance. Thagard Health Center is on campus and appointments can be made in person or over the phone. Thagard has a staff of nurse practitioners and other medical professionals who deal with everything, from broken bones to STDs. There is also a pharmacy within Thagard. Appointments are free, however lab work costs must be paid after each visit. If your insurance covers the lab work then you can fill out a form and defer the payment to the insurance company. The University Counseling Center is also located on campus in the Askew Student Life Building. Appointments are free and can be made in person or over the phone. The University Counseling Center offers individual, couples and group counseling. The UCC staff consists of a full-time professional staff from various mental health disciplines including psychology, mental health counseling and social work. They deal with anything and everything from stress and anxiety to eating disorders and depression. You can go once a year or once a week, it all depends on what your mental health need are. The only problem with these services is that they are not open on the weekend. In emergency cases students are prompted to call 911 or the crisis management unit. Both are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, neither take appointments after 4:30pm.
