Traditions
- Sod Cemetery
The sod cemetery began when the first piece of sod was buried in the corner of the Florida State practice field, and a monument was placed to commemorate a road victory against Georgia in 1960. The tradition of planting a piece of sod from a road win stuck and is continued to this day.
- Planting of the Spear
Possibly the most famous tradition at FSU is the planting of the spear by Chief Osceola, played by a lucky student. Prior to kickoff, Chief Osceola, riding his horse, Renegade, gallops onto the field and plants a flaming spear at midfield to begin every home game.
- Sex at the Stadium
One tradition that has become increasingly difficult to pull off is having sex on the 50-yard line at Doak Campbell Stadium. Unfortunately, recent renovations have made it much more secure than it used to be, and the success rate has dropped off dramatically.
- Fountain Fling
Another demented tradition is skinny dipping in Westcott Fountain. To make it all the more interesting, the school now has a live Web-cam recording the fountain 24 hours a day.
