    Pepe's most prized possession is a knife that belonged to his father. His father had been killed by a rattlesnake bite. Pepe desperately wants to be thought of as a man, but his mother keeps called him a "peanut". Pepe used to practice throwing the knife over and over again. Ironically, this is what gets him into trouble when he instinctively takes out the knife and stabs a man to death. This action forces him to leave his family to try to escape the men who are after him. It is during this struggle that he is forced to grow up and confront his own death.
