Troy Maxson is a father and a husband. His duties are carried out, and he is generally a good man. He is a good man with one flaw. He does not acknowledge his own son's potential. This singular flaw is another way that Troy is believable. The characters in "Fences" are not so over the top that they cease to be real. Wilson limits their flaws in order to make them truly ordinary and realistic.
