Posted by ladyvols1 on Thursday November 20, 2008 at 9:24 PMWhen Montag arrives home from work one night he finds his wife near death from an overdose. The emergency services come, pump her stomach, and save her life. Later in the story Montag is beside his wife in bed and can't remember where they met; neither can she. He begins to remember her near death, "And he remembers thinking then that if she died, he was certain he wouldn't cry. For it would be the dying of an unknown, a street face, a newspaper image, and it was suddenly so very wrong that he had begun to cry, not at death, but at the thought of not crying at death, a silly empty man near a silly empty woman..."(pg 46).
