During the part of the novel "Fahrenheit 451," where Montag is reading to Mildred, each character has very different reactions.  Mildred tries to let Montag know that she thinks this act is stupid and dangerous. She tells him "they aren't people" and they have no meaning like her television people have. She doesn't "get it."  Mildred wants Montag to stop and to make things go back to the way they were before she found out there were books in her home.  She is frightened and wants him to stop.  Montag on the other hand, is trying desperately to get his wife to wake up and realize how important these ideas and thoughts in books really are.  He is frustrated with her because she can't understand his interest and because he can't seem to interest her.  Montag believes these books must be read and wants to share this with his wife, but she wants no part of it.
