If you are talking about one of the 50 states, I think it is the opposite. More and more people seem to be moving to the outskirts of the state or more in the fringes to speak, to keep their freedom. As it happens, you can move very far from urban centers in large Mid-western states that you can freely do what you want and you will be left alone. And with 50 states, there does seem to be a state for everyone that should match their standard of living, though few people have the freedom or luxury to just get up and go.
