The Story:
Like all firemen in the future society of the novel, Montag burned books, which were entirely prohibited. One day, while returning home from work, Montag met Clarisse, his mysterious young neighbor. Her probing questions caused him to reflect critically on the purpose of his job. When he entered his house, he found that his wife had taken an overdose of sleeping pills. Montag had to call the emergency hospital to have her stomach pumped.
The next day, however, Mildred failed to recollect the event and returned to her usual life of watching mindless television...
