The Christian principles he uses lead him to believe that perfection of man is as inevitable as the certainty of death. This is a contrast to Aristotle's belief that temperance was finding the medium between the extremes. For example, living a life in the center between absolute goodness and absolute wickedness. Spenser believes in using restraint or moderation in all aspects of pleasures, desires, and impulses. Aristotle believes there are good desires, pleasures, and impulses that need not be limited, and bad desires, that should be avoided.
