1900: Ireland is a British colony. Irish-Catholics are under British rule. The Irish are forced to live in the more squalid sections of the country. Irish Town, a section of Dublin known for its seediness, is like a ghetto for natives; this is akin to a Chinatown in China. The Irish are oppressed.
Today: Although much of Northern Ireland remains under British rule, parts of Ireland are independent. Dublin is the capital of an independent nation.
