Endangered Oceans | Voluntary Efforts to Control Cruise Ship Waste Are Adequate
In the following viewpoint Ted Thompson, executive vice president of the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL), claims that the ICCL has voluntarily established strict waste management practices and procedures that mirror or exceed federal legislation. According to Thompson, the cruise ship industry cares about the marine environment and works with lawmakers to prevent pollution. The cruise ship industry has a vested interest in protecting the beauty of the seas upon which it depends and is therefore a responsible environmental steward, Thompson maintains.
